Gov. Bev Perdue announced today that FASTA Inc., an international producer of steel and foam construction panels, is opening its first manufacturing plant in Littleton.  The company plans to invest $2.5 million and create 105 jobs in Halifax County over the next three years.  The announcement was made possible in part by a $300,000 grant from the One North Carolina Fund.

“North Carolina continues to attract manufacturing companies looking to tap into a top-ranked business climate and growing global opportunities,” Gov. Perdue said.  “These companies know the value of our skilled workforce and unparalleled quality of life.”

The 105 new jobs will pay an average of $28,707, not including benefits.  That is more than the Halifax County average annual wage of $25,844.

FASTA, or Foam and Steel Technology Associates Inc., is a Virginia-based manufacturer of pre-engineered steel panels and components for the international residential, commercial and institutional markets.  The company promotes “green” building practices for the design and construction of homes for the efficient use of energy, water and materials.  FASTA plans to open its first manufacturing facility in Littleton to produce steel panels and trusses.

“The site’s location provides for exceptional logistical access to major roadways, and the availability of a highly qualified local labor force in Halifax County will contribute to the company’s long-term success,” said company President Terry Fowler, on why he selected Littleton.  “We are excited about the opportunities and feel this is a win-win situation for all concerned.”

The One North Carolina Fund provides financial assistance, through local governments, to attract business projects that will stimulate economic activity and create new jobs in the state.  Companies receive no money up front and must meet job creation and investment performance standards to qualify for grant funds.  All of these grants also require and are contingent upon local matches.

“North Carolina continues to be a great state for businesses to locate, and we welcome FASTA to Halifax County,” said Sen. Ed Jones.

“North Carolina’s tremendous workforce continues to attract businesses to our state and we’re excited to have the jobs coming to Halifax County,” said Rep. Lucy Allen.

“In these tough economic times we must continue to develop strong partnerships to bring business to all parts of North Carolina,” said Rep. Angela Bryant.

Through use of the One North Carolina Fund, more than 35,000 jobs and $6.5 billion in investment have been created since 2001.  Project partners include: the N.C. Departments of Commerce and Revenue, Halifax County, Town of Littleton, Halifax County Business Horizons, Golden LEAF Foundation and the N.C. Rural Economic Development Center.
